I really enjoyed this class. I loved being able to guide my own learning and how much freedom I had with my work. I wish that I would've done more experiments because I was really looking forward to this class when I was a freshmen. I've had so much fun in this class. There are so many memorable moments from this semester and I am so sad that I have to move on to another class. This is the class that I felt most at home in this year, which means that I had a great teacher.
I learned that like to have a deeper understanding of how something works. Often I would find myself researching topics so I could know what I was talking about. This class made me realize that I like knowing more than other people and that I'm very driven or stubborn once I get my mind set on something.
I found myself taking AP Chemistry because I was so curious about the things that people in regular high schools learn. I felt like I was missing so much because we almost never had lessons that were textbook chemistry. I know that High Tech High is built around the standards of not using textbooks but, I think that having a few traditional lessons would be good. We are taught in such different ways that when we get to college many people will not know what to do. I love that we are taught to explore what we are interested in but, we wont always be able to do that.
When I found out that we were going to work on rockets all semester I was very disappointed. I have never liked making rockets because I was always around them in freshmen year. The first rocket we made was the one that I did even though I wasn't curios about it. It was only when we started making the larger rockets when I got interested. I thought there was going to be a lot more to the project but, it turned out being just building the rocket. There wasn't much background information and I think that was what I was missing while making the balsa rockets. If I don't have a reason to be doing something I will not be motivated to do it but, give me information about how it works and why and I will be more than happy to work on it.
Even though I am excited to become a Junior, I am also very sad to leave a class that I enjoyed so much. I can never forget everything that I learned and all of the fun I had. I hope that the rest of my classes are as great as this one was.
