Confucianism Reflection:
I think that Confucianism is not about religion because in the text it does not refer to anything religious or spiritual. From reading books one,two and three, it seems that Confucianism is more about the social order of thought. I feel this way because in the text it talks about being a better person and how to become part of the politics. In book two chapter one it says, "' The Master said, 'He who exercises government by means of his virtue may be compared to the north polar star, which keeps its place and all the other stars turn towards it.'" My understanding of this is that the man with virtue is the polar star and the other stars are the other members of government.
Tao Reflection:
I feel that the significance of the Tao is letting your life lead itself and let everything flow, to me it's about looking at different perspectives of life. I also feel that tao has to do with yin and yang, I think that it is meant to say that you have to have balance. It shows you how to lead others and show appropriate behavior. By letting everything flow we get to see how ourself and others live their lives and how we can change it. Yet, changing our lives isn't always what we need to do. For example, someone changes what they do and it does not work out, they learn from their mistakes and sometimes learning from mistakes is the only way to learn the lesson.
Why Religion Matters:
I feel that religion matters because it gives people hope and like said in the text, something to lean on. Personally, I don't always lean on religion because I have had bad things happen when I ask for things to be good but, I have found that sometimes when you ask for something good you get the exact opposite and until you get through the bad, you don't realize that the obstacle showed you that you need to have a bad day to appreciate the good ones. I agree that there are different images of God for each religions but, I don't agree with trying to have science back up religion. The thing about religion is that you can't prove it, you have to have faith and without it you can't believe that there is someone looking after you.
Harnessing Human Power Reflection:
This technology is significant because it lowers the use of energy that we use, it makes it to where we can go longer without having to plug something into an outlet. The device gives people a way to have energy in places or situations where they don't have electricity. Like said in the text, the device runs off of piezoelectricity, which means when there is pressure it creates electricity. I understand how you can create energy through pressure but, I'm still confused about what the virus does. I know that the virus has to change something to make it charge.
Transistors Reflection:
Something that made this seminar different was that it was really relaxed and more open minded. I feel like even if someone didn't know much about technology, they still had an opinion. I liked this seminar so much more than other ones because I felt like I could put in my opinion a lot easier. I wish that every seminar could be like this because I think people who are quiet would talk more. This topic is a lot easier to talk about also because it is based around fact and not religion. It was good to learn the religion part but, I'm glad that we are moving onto more science based texts.
